I started this painting during the 2019-20 Australian bushfires and I was really worried and stressed about my country, the loss of life and property, all the fauna and flora that perished and what our climate future will be for my children. Each one of those painted lines holds a thread of those thoughts and feelings.
I wanted to contrast those events with calmer, cooler colours representing the eventual greens shoots that will slowly appear when the fire is out. The 'drift net' adds visual drama and is more or less us as float aimlessly towards our climate fate.
