I have long been amazed by ‘pre-history’ and the remarkably impossible monolithic structures and artistic skills that were showcased by the Aztec, Inca and Mayan civilizations. The inspiration for this piece draws from that awe. I am fascinated by the rhythmic patterns that emerge, where ancient peoples translated their connection to the cosmos and their stories into symbolic forms of art.
My painting seeks to explore deep themes of symbolism, as well as the universal human desire to leave a mark and to record our journeys.
