he original title was called ‘Waiting’ and it referenced my longing for Emily to move to WA from Sydney to live together. I made an entire collection called “Finding Emily”, a tribute to the moment I thought I had found the girl of my dreams.
Emily and I didn’t work out, we followed different paths, and in the collapse of what I thought was certain, I eventually found Ania. Where I’ve grown as a man, a husband and Father. Like my other painting “Return to paradise”, life repairs itself with love. Someone is waiting for us, it just takes a while to find ourselves first and then they appear, but this time - the heart is true and ready to spark.
That is typical of life. History rarely reveals its meaning in the moment. Only when we look back do we see the catalysts, those quiet turning points etched in tears. “Waiting to be together” has so much history wrapped in paint. It evolved over 2 decades, so too the people around it. All the while it watched and waited…
