Water Story

Concept Design Phase

This proposal responds to the Water Story theme with a sculptural installation on the limestone terraces by the river, inviting reflection on memory, transformation, and emergence. Abstract bronze forms, cast from salvaged jarrah piles of the old Fremantle Traffic Bridge, step upward with the slope, echoing spring water through stone and bridging past and present.

Anchored by the nearby historic freshwater spring and shaped through consultation with Whadjuk Elders, the work symbolises water as life-giving force and connection to Country. Subtle night lighting extends its presence, offering a permanent, abstract reflection on water as origin, the river as life source, and Country as living archive.
